In an effort to continue the collaboration between parents, teachers, and administrators, the Forestville Academy Advisory Committee (FAAC)
was formed. This group consists of elected parent representatives for
each of the 2-8 grades, one K-1 representative, and teacher
representatives from each grade level. The Academy Principal facilitates
the meetings and Board of Trustee members also participate in the
discussions. The FAAC has had a particular interest in
increasing art integration into the curriculum as well expanding and
enriching the electives offered at the Middle-School level. The
general public is invited to attend meetings. Parents can express their
opinions and make suggestions about the direction of the Academy by working through their parent representative. Please e-mail the Academy secretary for a list of parent representatives or if you want to contact the Principal or are interested in volunteering. Forestville Academy
offers a rigorous standards-based program. Students are exposed to
project-based learning as well as meaningful experiences outside of the
classroom to enrich the curriculum. Teachers design lessons and use
differentiated instructional strategies to reach each child’s unique
learning style. We
believe that students with different learning styles and various
strengths thrive when highly qualified instructors provide opportunities
for success. Forestville Academy provides support for
students that are in specialized programs such as English Language
Development, Special Education, and Gifted and Talented Education
(GATE). We are committed to integrating students in specialized programs
into the regular education program while providing them the support
necessary to meet their needs. Students
that are designated to participate in the Gifted and Talented Education
(GATE) program are given opportunities to work together in like-ability
groups within the regular education program as well as participate in
after-school programs like Yearbook, Stage Craft, and Science Olympiad. Students
that have Individualized Education plans (iep’s) or 504 plans are given
opportunities to work in small groups with a resource teacher and
teaching assistants in our comprehensive resource room. Students that are English Language Learners are given assistance by an ELL specialist in our English Language Development Lab……… The
Academy is committed to continual school improvement. Teachers are
given opportunities for professional growth in the summer and throughout
the school year. In addition to classes and workshops, teachers have
opportunities for collaboration within subject areas or across grade
levels, including articulation with the high school district. A
rich music, physical education, and visual and performing arts program
is integrated into the curriculum. Middle-School students are given the
opportunity to choose enrichment classes such as foreign language,
technology, a comprehensive art program, and student leadership.
Additionally, we offer students an opportunity to act as cross-age
tutors, working with teachers and students at lower grade levels. These
invaluable experiences help keep students “connected” to each other and
give opportunities for older students to act as role models for younger
students.
Forestville Academy is a charter school for grades 2-8. We are still part of the Forestville Unified School District,
K-8. We are still part of the Forestville tradition of high academic
standards in a supportive and caring environment. The movement for
chartering the 2-8 grades was a collaboration between parents, teachers,
and administrators. The idea behind this movement was to try to bring
in some innovative programs that charter schools allow as well as bring
back some of our outstanding programs. Forestville Academy became a
charter school in July of 2006. Our new Principal, Ms. Talin Tamzarian,
was also hired at that time.
